5 Affiliate Marketing Tips and How I Made $358.40 in 30 Days
This is the goal, right? Making money from your blog, even if it's just a little bit. Today, I'm sharing my best affiliate marketing tips that help me make money through my blog.
This post contains affiliate links. That means if you use my link, I make a small commission at no extra cost to you. As always, thank you for your support.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is when you promote a product created by someone else and receive a percentage of sales that you generate.
For instance, I am an affiliate of Billionaire Blog Club. When someone discovers BBC through something I've written on my blog and use my links to sign up, that is tracked by BBC. They pay me a portion of the sale generated (btw, thank you for using my links - you're awesome) as a thank you for promoting them.
How Do You Make Money from Affiliate Marketing?
Depending on the affiliate program, payments are generated based on your agreement with them. The most common agreements are payouts after 30, 60 or 90 days after a sale has been confirmed.
Here's an example.
If you are an affiliate of Amazon and have an agreement that you are paid 30 days after a sale, you would account for and expect to be paid in 30 days. This is when money is made. Until then, the income is earned but still floating around as a possible payment.
With affiliate marketing, diversification is the easiest way to generate income. There are many affiliate program networks like Ebates, Awin, Shareasale and Amazon, and anyone who creates a digital product has the potential to create an affiliate program.
When you buy a product online from bloggers, they usually have affiliate offerings to help get their products out to more people. After purchasing and using the product, if you like it and would like to promote it, reach out to the creator for affiliate opportunities.
My Best Affiliate Marketing Tips for Making Money
These are my best tips for earning money and making money through affiliate marketing. In 30 days, I was able to make $358.40 (money that hit my bank account) and earn another $708.80 (confirmed but not yet deposited) from one affiliate program and made $15.00 from another program using these tips.
They're super easy to follow, so you can start making money as soon as you sign up for affiliate programs.
Promote products that you like.
Affiliate marketing is all promotion, aka, talking about a product and why people should use it or buy it.
When you like a product, it's easy to talk about it. For instance, if you find a really good book or restaurant, you want to tell people about it and your experience with it. It's the same thing with affiliate marketing.
Teach people how to use something or make the best use of it.
On Amazon, you can find just about anything. The easiest way to promote items on Amazon is to talk about how to use them - create a tutorial or tell a story about how the products help you in your life.
Make that connection with people. Tell them why they need it in their life.
Share the products often.
You like these products, and you enjoy talking about them and sharing them. Find ways to share the products without repeating the same things over and over again. Get creative with your promotion tactics.
Subtle injections of affiliate promotion can include posting links in your sidebar or at the bottom of your blog posts. This way, you're sharing your links without being too intrusive or over-promoting.
Take a side.
My most-read post is the one about my experience with Elite Blog Academy (EBA). It was a very controversial review, because it was the only negative review out there about this huge blogging program.
Did I expect the attention that I got from that post? No, I didn't. I was a little worried about posting something so out-right against the program, but I did it anyway.
Because I took a side. It was my truth, and I wanted to tell my story about the experience I had with them.
When I first wrote it, I wasn't an affiliate of Billionaire Blog Club (BBC), but I talked about them anyway. I talked about how I was skeptical, but they won me over. Check out the full scoop here.
Anyway, people really connected with me on that blog post, and the comments were proof that I should be proud that I took that chance.
Heavily Promote your blog posts with affiliate links.
If you don't do the work to promote your blog posts, then you won't make any money. If you're not on Pinterest promoting your posts, you're missing out on a whole world of people looking for something to solve their problems.
Promote your solutions - that's what your blog posts are - solutions to people's problems. Get them out there for the world to read, and it will be more likely that you'll get clicks and sales on your links.
Be mindful of the rules of affiliate marketing.
Disclosure is necessary, and it has to come before any links are seen. See my disclosure at the beginning of this post as an example. Feel free to copy and paste my disclosure if you want to. I don't mind.
Legally, you must state that you receive something when people click your links. Also, it's nice to make people aware. Every country has different rules and regulations, so check out yours.
So there you have my best affiliate marketing tips for making money with your blog. I hope you found this post helpful and can start earning and making money soon!
